Zonza Second in Lord Mayors Cup

Not fancied on track after a rare failure at Hawkesbury last weekend, Zabeel mare Zonza was sent out well over the odds at $23 and led her rivals a merry chase before being run down in the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) yesterday.

“I expected that run. She’s finished first or second in all but one of her 10 starts,” stated James. “The occasion got to her at Hawkesbury but I was confident she’d bounce back.”

Jay Ford elected to ride Zonza forward which goes against her usual racing pattern, but James isn’t placing any blame on the jockey.

“She was ridden upside down but that was purely from the circumstances Jay faced,” James said. “He couldn’t go back so he went forward instead.”
