Roger James is covering two bases in an attempt to qualify Romantic Maid for the Gr.1 Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm on June 4.
The Cambridge trainer has the High Chaparral filly in a 2000 metre event at Randwick on Wednesday in case she fails to make the field for Saturday’s Gr.3 The Roses at Doomben.
Romantic Maid, who needs to boost her prize money to make the Oaks field, finished third at Rosehill last Saturday.
“I was satisfied, but I thought she might have done better,” James said. “Michael Rodd felt she was very much in need of blinkers.”
